Oak leaves turning brown at the edges in Memphis
Brown leaf edges are a reason to investigate, not a diagnosis. The pattern, timing and condition of the whole tree matter before a treatment is chosen.

What might be happening?
Tennessee Forestry notes that bacterial leaf scorch can resemble drought and other vascular problems.[12] Oak wilt is another possible lookalike, but the agency does not consider it established across Tennessee. Do not assume that a browning Memphis oak has oak wilt.[13]
What to tell the arborist
When did browning start? Is it limited to one branch or spreading through the crown? Tell us whether the same pattern appeared last year and whether watering, paving or digging changed.
The next step
Ask for an arborist assessment of the canopy, roots and site. If symptoms overlap, the next step may be diagnostic sampling rather than fertilizer or an injection. A yearly plan can record the starting condition and track changes.
What not to assume
Do not buy a treatment based on leaf colour alone or assume that watering fixes every cause. Photos help document the change, but do not establish the diagnosis.
This is general guidance, not a diagnosis. Your arborist confirms the cause and treatment suitability on site; some concerns also need laboratory confirmation.
