Tree care in Memphis

Help My Tree offers tree health care, pruning, removal and stump grinding in Memphis. Start with the problem you want solved. If the tree may be kept, an arborist check belongs before a removal decision.

Keeping a tree deserves the first conversation.

Which kind of help fits the problem?

Choose tree health care for a change in growth or a question about roots. Choose pruning for a specific branch or clearance concern. Removal begins with a second look at preservation. Stump grinding begins with your plan for the space afterward. You do not need to identify a disease before requesting help. Describe what changed and where the tree stands.

What does keeping a tree involve?

Our services include arborist checks, air-spade root care, cabling and bracing assessment, and yearly care with soil tests and a written report. Planting and establishment care are available when a replacement is appropriate. Our rule is to test before adding anything. Many trees need no fertilizer.[8] Mulch does more for less is our starting position, not a promise for every site. A five-year soil study found woodchip mulch the most cost-effective individual treatment.[12] A yearly care program is not a standing order to fertilize.

When should I contact MLGW?

MLGW says never attempt tree work near power lines.[7] Its Line Clearance area decides whether a tree threatens utility facilities and whether trimming or removal is necessary.[7] Normal utility trimming includes removal or chipping of the resulting debris, but MLGW does not remove storm-caused tree debris.[7] Keep that distinction in mind when discussing cleanup. Help My Tree does not replace utility hazard reporting.

What local guidance should shape the plan?

UT Tennessee Smart Yards recommends mulch 2 to 3 inches deep while leaving at least 2 inches clear around trunks.[2] Tennessee Forestry advises avoiding oak pruning from March through July.[4] It says oak wilt has been reported but is not considered established across the state.[4] These are care precautions, not a diagnosis for every declining Memphis oak. Before digging for a replacement, follow MLGW’s instruction to call 811.[13]

How should I prepare a request?

Give the tree’s location and describe your goal in ordinary words. Mention visible wires and any route into the yard. Photos are useful only when they can be taken safely. Stay away from broken or hanging limbs. Tell us if the tree is beside a street or its ownership is uncertain; a postal address alone does not settle permission.
